Note: I've only had counter service here, and not yet dined-in.

While almost everything here contains sugar in dangerous quantities, it's just all so good that you can't help but keep coming back... and the super-friendly staff really make that choice an easy one.

ALWAYS take a number though, if you don't want to be caught waiting!

This place is busy all the time, to the point where if there's a lineup and it's off-season, you might want to come back in 30 minutes or so. Not because the staff are slow( they're QUICK to serve you! )but that the customers tend to take their time, picking this and that and then this and maybe... well, you get the idea. You can't really blame folks though, since there's so MUCH variety to choose from.

I tend to prefer the smaller treats, like the hazelnut puffs or chocolate half-moons, which are great value for the money: $10 will get you a dozen of these delicacies, which go over really well as an office pick-me-up. You can also get cakes( whole or by the slice )along with a variety of baked goods - watch out for the rare special sale for REALLY good deals.

I stop by every few weeks to pick up something for the people I work with, and it always makes their day. While it's often busy here, the staff are really great and have excellent suggestions if you're not sure what to try.

The Dutch Bakery is a Victoria institution, like a few other places, and it's worth your time( even if it annoys your dentist )to drop in to treat yourself, or people you love.

The third generation Schaddelee brothers do an exceptional job at preserving old world Victoria. If you want sickly sweet supermarket cakes, you won't find them here. Wheelchair accessible entrance (washroom up steep narrow flight of steps). Located along Antique Row just steps from Douglas Street.

I am personally not a fan of the Dutch Bakery. I know a lot of people really like it and maybe it is the nostalgia that goes along with it. I find the cakes are very bland and almost dry. The cookies are ok but if someone brings them in to the office I don't have a hard time saying no. It's just not for me.

A lovely, family-owned bakery in the heart of downtown. Delicious pastries at quite a reasonable price. The diner in the back has pretty decent fair, but their strength is clearly in the desserts. The service for ordering at the front-of-house bakery could be re-worked to make it run smoother. It's quite hectic when there is more than 3 customers in the store as each of the 2 - 3 cashiers just grab and ring in their individual sales. Feels like chickens running around with their heads cut off when it really doesn't need to be.
